ACK! I broke a nail! In Italy, a foreign country where everyone speaks a language other than the language I speak!
What to do, what to do?
Not exactly in line with a Greek Tragedy, of course, but I did not want to meet my cousin with a broken nail!
When I was at the Mall the other day, I saw a full service beauty salon. Maybe they could help me. I looked up “manicure” in my English to Italian dictionary. Surprisingly, the word for manicure in Italian is…manicure.
I was not after a manicure though. I wanted my broken nail fixed. Acrylic tip is not in the dictionary!
I headed into the salon and stuck my broken fingernail where the receptionist could see it and said “Ripari?” (You repair?)
“Si” she replied.
With that, all was well in my world.
