In my wacky news site, I was reading that more Americans —
- can name the Seven Dwarfs but not the 9 current Supreme Court Justices
- know who Harry Potter is than who Tony Blair is
- can name Homer Simpson’s son but not Homer’s famous poem.
We knew more about the make believe planet Superman came from than the location of the real planets in our solar system. We knew the names of the Three Stooges, but not the names of the 3 branches of our government.
I’m sure we’d do better if the Justices sang a catchy tune before handing down their opinions.
Heigh HO, heigh HO, here’s our decision, now we’ll go…
And if they had put a note in the credits of the movie “Troy“, saying “…loosely based on the poem by Homer”, I’m sure the Iliad and the Odyssey would be household names.
Why the branches of the government aren’t as famous as the Stoogies is beyond me. The Stooges tell jokes and the goverment has become a joke.
That’s about the same, no?
(In case you were trying to remember)
Supreme Court Justices
Harry Potter – fictious teen wizard in JK Rowlings novels
Tony Blair – Prime Minister of Great Britian
Homer’s Son – Bart
Homer’s poem – Iliad
Three branches of our Government
