Now Appearing…

My friend and I like to listen to live music. We used to go listen to this band, Somebody’s Ex. 4 women, all very talented. They separated around 5-6 years ago, but I think they had what it takes to make it. The lead singer / guitarist used to write much of the music. Even though they occasionally would cover Led Zepplin, Heart, Ricky Lee, Joan Baez, most of the requests shouted from the audience were for originals.

Last night we went to listen to a new act. Her name is Michelle Mangione. I met this musician when I went on a walkthrough of her house at her request for some home improvements. When looking through the house at what she wanted repaired, we walked into her music room.

It seems she spent much of her music career as a drummer, but was now branching out into other instruments. The day I was there, she had several guitars on the walls, and a harp sitting on the floor. When I asked if she played the harp, her friend’s reply was, “Not yet, but give her a half an hour.” That is some kind of talent!

She has produced a new CD, Life beneath the Sun. The cover was designed by Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane/Starship. She decided to have a CD release party at Highland Grounds in Hollywood. That’s where my friend and I went to listen.
